anti-spasmodic, demulcent,
anti-catarrhal and diuretic
Traditional Uses:
Internal: Very popular for all chest problems. Used in chronic or acute bronchitis, irritating coughs, whooping coughs and asthma and emphysema. Ease dry coughs and loosen tight phlegm. Useful levels of zinc and has therefore anti-inflammatory actions. It has been used to treat cystitis
External: Soothes swollen feet.
Directions to use:
Infusion: Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 2.5g (1 – 2 teaspoons) of leaves. Infuse for 10 – 15min. Strain and drink three times per day, as hot as possible.
For inhalation: 1 heaped tablespoon of flowers and leaves. Infuse and inhale the steam under a towel. Repeat several times a day.
Foot bath: 2 handfuls of leaves, infused in warm water. Soak for 20min. Do not use for longer than 4 – 6 weeks per year.
Safety precautions:
Do not use if pregnant or lactating. Consult with a medical practitioner before use. Responds well with children. Long term use is not advised. Stay within the recommended dosage.
