Traditional Uses:
Bitter which may be used to stimulate the appetite and digestion by stimulating the digestive juices. Accelerates the emptying of the stomach. May be useful in the treatment of convalescence. May reduce fever and anemia. Generally fortifying effect. May be useful in the treatment of anorexia nervosa, alimentary insufficiency, biliousness as well as jaundice.
Directions to use:
Decoction: Put 2g – 4g of root in a cup of water and boil for 5min. Drink warm 15-30min before meals or when acute stomach aches.
Safety precautions:
Do not use if pregnant or lactating. May cause headaches. Do not use if suffering from gastric or duodenal ulcers. Consult with a medical practitioner before use.
